#1-Get a Pickup, 3/4 ton and above, preferably 4x4
#2 10 ply tires and above, not 10 ply rated tires (big difference)
#3 carry a good spare, 2 if you can
#4 4 way tinre lug wrench, and a pipe extension (although I find using leg power and body weight works for most situations...stand on the wrench if you can, and jump lightly...that usually frees up stubborn lug nuts)
#5 Hi Lift Jack (Chuck the OEM Jack..not adequate)
#6 Good winch for your truck (weak winch cables snapping can be deadly...get a good one that will handle a bigger load)
#7 C.B. and Cell Phone
#8 carry at least 1 shovel
#9 20 ft tow chain ( don't like recovery straps myself)
#10 Tire Chains, front and rear preferably (Lay out the chains on the ground first, then drive on them...much easier way to do it...and get quality rubber bungee cords for them...fasten with bungee hooks OUT) (If you only got 1 set, use chains on front in 4 wheel drive)
#11...don't drive like a maniac...drive slower than usual, to prevent snapped axles and popped tires
#12...use low range and engine braking to slow down coming down steep hills
#13...throw extra weight in back'
#14...if you DO get stuck, rock back and forth gently to get out...spinning tires only increases frustration
#15...carry some planks in back in snowy conditions 2x 10s work fine
